Ragnar Relay

So a few weeks back (Feb 26th and 27th) Tyler and I participated in the Ragnar Relay...a friend of mine from nursing school and church somehow talked me into this crazy race last year in like August! Thanks Eevi...actually it went more like "If anyone's interested in running let me know!" (from her blog) So I responded with an emphatic YES!!! Since running was something I wanted to do to get back in shape after having Lowe and my distance that I ran added up to a half marathon which was something I wanted to do by Lowe's one year birthday...so there...it's done!!!

But this relay was from Prescott to Mesa, AZ. A 202.4 mile run consisting of 36 legs. 12 runners running 3 legs each. It was a pretty cool experience. I mean, how many people can say they've done something this outrageous, oops, I mean fun. Tyler was running number 1 and I was runner number 4. I talked my dad into lending us his 12 seater van and himself as our driver. My older brother Nathan came along for the fun also.

It was all sorts of fun trying to be comfortable being in the van for long long periods of time without really getting a chance to get out and move around. And than when you could, it was all sorts of cold outside!!! But all was going well until Exchange Point 18. This was a major exchange point where we switched from being active and having runners from our van run to the other van for our team being active. But there was a really bad accident where a runner got hit by a car and the race officials shut down 6 legs of the race. The entire race got re-routed to Exchange Point 24 and so that left us trying to figure out how the get 3 legs of running in for each runner on the team. We doubled up on our van's 3rd legs, having runners from our other van run with us. This way, we were done when we thought our van was going to be done on Saturday and the other van's runners got to run 3 times each as well.

It was pretty fun to get to run outside and in such a cool event. My longest leg was 5 miles and I made it!!! Woo hoo to that!!! I just can't believe how hard it was to move after doing this race...Literally it hurt to move at all!!! Thanks again to dad and Nathan for being there for our team and to Eevi for organizing all the fun. Can't wait to do it again next year!!! Hopefully I can be better on the training thing though...
